Artist Statement - 2026
Joshua Reiman
I am a sculptor and filmmaker. I believe in well-made objects and captivating cinematic experiences. I am in love with knowing the processes involved in creating thought-provoking physical spatial works of art. My work addresses themes of cultural identity through conceptual exploration and a strong lust for material inquiry through process oriented tasks that make me learn new skills. My fabricated narratives help me frame or scaffold my work for others. Within each project I take on, there are many curious problems that entangle my work and my research.
My practice stands at a crossroads of theatrical simulation and assumptions embedded within our shared human culture. I often use figures from art, history, and politics to anchor new narratives. This takes place at the junction of absurdity - where reality and fiction meet. Making art has been a catalyst for me to share my interests within this complex world we live in. My work involves transforming reality into a visual synthesis of what is real, fake and imagined, and I love what I do.
